notice to end contract. Help

• I have a 6 months contract in Cadiz area and ( silly me!) paid 6 months up front. I have found a much nicer and cheaper flat and so gave my landlord just over a months notice. that seemed fine but now he refuses to give back any of the rent. Can he leagally do this??
