resident permit

• I am an American citizen and would like to move to Geneva with my boyfriend for a short period, 6 months. I will be looking for a job in that time and if i can find one then i will stay for a few years. Do i need any kind of permit to stay in switzerland for the 6 months while i look for a job?

• you will need one

  yep you'll need a permit for any stay over 3 months. If your boyfriend is worrking and is willing to commit to being financially responsable for you while you are in Switzerland it should be no problem.

  I understand that I am allowed to look for work for 3 months without a permit. But I also understand that I have to register with my local authority within 8 days.
  
  so is it best to turn up without an employment contract and they'll let me register anyway? or do i just wait until I get a job, if i find one?
  
  My boyfriend already has a job etc.
