For the majority of expats, Taiwan’s visitor visas and residency visas are most relevant, as these permit employment and study, unlike the short-term options.

Visitor visas
Short term stays for business, study or leisure
Taiwan can grant short term visas to tourists, students and business people who wish to visit the country for no more than six months. They are applied for in advance and are issued for periods of up to ninety days. An extension on a short term visa will permit a total stay of up to six months.

Resident visas & work permits
Study or work in Taiwan long-term
Taiwan’s resident visa is for foreign nationals who wish to stay in the ROC for more than six months for business, educational or family purposes. Resident visa holders are required to apply for an ARC and re-entry permit within 15 days of their entry to Taiwan.
